BIO:

As Nashville, TN’s THE PINK SPIDERS have always been acutely aware, hype is one thing, but taking over the world is something else entirely.

From the moment the THE PINK SPIDERS first stormed onto the Nashville music scene in 2004, it was more than abundantly obvious that they weren’t interested in taking prisoners – they were out for nothing short of complete and utter domination. With an approach falling somewhere between no-holds-barred and balls-to-the-walls, the SPIDERS immediately opened eyes (and ears) everywhere they played with a striking iconic look – clad head to toe in hot pink and jet black – and an accompanying sound that involved just as much sex and danger as their image.

”Simply put, we want to be the biggest band in the world,” singer/guitarist and SPIDERS mastermind Matt Friction states without the slightest hint of irony. "Ambition is like the number one uncool thing in music right now, but if you look at all the bands that we're influenced by, it goes back to the same thing: they were very ambitious. It was a competition. THE ROLLING STONES, THE BEATLES, THE BEACH BOYS. Who was the greatest band in the world? And each would put out a record trying to top the other one. Like, 'Who can top this?' And there's nothing like that now. It's like, 'Who's got the coolest record that's going to be cool for six months?'"

According to plan, the trio signed to indie stalwart CI Records less than 6 months after forming and released an industry shockwave of an album entitled Hot Pink in January 2005. A chillingly well-conceived album that unfurled like a grainy black and white film about fast getaways and fast women, Hot Pink was doo-wop on a bender; catchy, infectious doses of dark, unruly pop for the lust-filled swinger.

Jaws dropped, heads turned and wallets opened. Less than 3 weeks after the album’s release, and in the midst of a nationwide tour, the SPIDERS suddenly found themselves in the midst of a major label bidding war. When the dust eventually cleared, THE PINK SPIDERS had found themselves a new home with powerhouse Geffen Records.

The band’s major label debut, Teenage Graffiti – produced by legendary CARS frontman Ric Ocasek - was a fevered, luminous record full of rock 'n' roll escapades. The debut single "Little Razorblade" became a major hit on radio stations country-wide and the accompanying video charted on TRL, prompting MTV to describe Teenage Graffiti as “a collection of sweaty, fist-pumping anthems” and to declare that THE PINK SPIDERS’ “rock and roll assault was underway.”

After the band’s summer-long appearance on the Van’s Warped Tour, a concert at Dodger Stadium and appearances on various television programs, it’s no wonder that critics have been heaping praise upon the SPIDERS. Alternative Press named them one of its “100 Bands You Need to Know.” Rolling Stone says, “[With] enough catchy charm and ass-kicking propulsion to suggest a ballsier WEEZER or a punk-schooled CHEAP TRICK ... the Spiders are ready to spin a power-pop revolution." Entertainment Weekly crowned the band “the ideal blend of sweetness and crunch.” While Spin declared the album “angst-ridden, smart-assed and slickly catchy.”

It’s with much anticipation that the SPIDERS now proudly present the Subterranean EP, a teaser for the follow-up to Teenage Graffiti. Featuring a mix of new and unreleased material, Subterranean is a limited edition tour only EP unavailable in stores – a special treat for the legions of loyal fans who have been supporting the band in venues all across the country.

While a little hype never hurt anyone, THE PINK SPIDERS are proving to be the road warriors they’ve always been, sending a clear message to the fans that they have the goods to back up the buzz. Next stop – World Domination.
